In its cover story profile of the Dexter Lake Club Band The New York Times writes, “This wasn’t some band doing sterile imitations, this was a real band.” The Dexter Lake Club Band is just that, a band, not a wedding agency or collective.
Our song list covers everything from classic rock to early soul and R&B, 80’s, 90’s, oldies, and current music, with special attention paid to songs other than the usual overplayed wedding staples. New York Magazine wrote, “The Dexter Lake Club Band: Because the music at your wedding does not have to be cheesy.” We promise not to play “Y.M.C.A”, “Celebration”, or “I Will Survive.” We collaborate with our clients to create a unique set list. New songs are added all the time and we are always happy to learn special requests. Whether you want to be very involved or leave things more up to us, we’ll come up with a set list that reflects your individual tastes and style.
NBC.com named the Dexter Lake Club Band “NYC’s Top Event Band” and NY Magazine called us “One of the Top Ten Reasons to Get Married in New York.” We’re based in NYC, but we travel too and have played events as far away as California, Canada, Texas, and Germany. Our client list includes the Metropolitan Museum of Art, South Street Seaport, Washington D.C. Ballet, Culinary Institute of America (Napa Valley), the Russian and German Embassies (Washington, DC), the Institute of Contemporary Art (Boston), Olivia Wilde, Amanda Peet and David Benioff (Game of Thrones), Princeton University, Etsy, Atlas Holdings, Riverside Farms (Vermont), the American Cancer Society, the College of New Jersey, and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
Dubbed, “Wedding Rock Royalty” by NPR’s John Schaefer, the Dexter Lake Club Band has been joined on stage by M. Ward, members of Fugazi and the Walkmen, and Paul Shaffer of Late Night with David Letterman. The band has shared bills with Matt & Kim, the Felice Brothers, Girl Talk, and even the Rockettes, and has been praised in the press including New York Magazine, Martha Stewart, Us Weekly, Brides, The New York Times, Celebrity Bride, and has been featured twice on NPR’s Soundcheck.
Individually, the members of the Dexter Lake Club Band are some of the most sought after musicians in NYC. We’ve recorded and performed with musical icons like Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, John Legend, Norah Jones, Todd Rundgren, and The Cars; collaborated with artists including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Walkmen, French Kicks, Elle King, Miike Snow, Philip Phillips, and Regina Spector; and performed with the New York Philharmonic and at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
We started the Dexter Lake Club Band at Oberlin College, playing local clubs and house parties. After graduation we headed to New York City, playing clubs with the band and touring and recording with indie bands like French Kicks and The Walkmen. After a few breaks, some high-profile gigs, and a few celebrity parties and weddings, the word spread. The New York Times called us, “New York’s premier wedding band for people who would never dream of hiring a wedding band.”
After performing for Olivia Wilde she kindly sent us this testimonial:
“My favorite moment of the evening was when I glanced around the dance floor and every family member and friend was bathed in sweat, smiling widely, passionately singing along, and never wanting the band to leave the stage.”
